Keep Dogs

Leashed

To the Editor:

For the past two months my children and I have observed the family of wild Canada geese raising their four goslings on Mr. Carrigan’s pond in Washington. It was a treat to watch them, in the midst of our toifcm, undisturbed and unmolested.

Last weekend however, three of the four young birds were killed by local dogs — only one remains. If the geese had been killed by their natural predators, say a fox or bobcat looking for a meal, it would have been easier to accept.

I urge all dog owners in Washington to keep their dogs under control and not allow them to roam about town. At a time when all wild water fowl populations are declining it’s a pity to loose even three due to irresponsible pet owners.
