Even though a bear was killed recently in Gid Brown Hollow, people should not get alarmed, game warden James Bankston said. The bear was trying to feast on some chickens and a hog on Roy Pullen’s property when it was killed, he said.
“Bears don’t usually attack farm animals,” said Bankston. “It’s only in early spring - the last two weeks in May, and the first two weeks of June - that they can be a threat,” he added. At that time of year food is scarce and they may be in search of a mate. They may break into storerooms or out-buildings if they sense food, he explained. Bears have also been known to run off with bird feeders.
