She and Geraldine Payne said they feel the children are actually ahead of former classes in math and credit the center-based instruction for helping with that. They said they have encouraged parents to help their children with reading and learning “the letter of the week.”
Marti Cannon, another kindergarten teacher, said, “We’re asking for a lot of reinforcement at home. The parents realize the children have missed a lot.”
Physical education teacher Carol Nowakowski said that she probably won’t have time to teach tumbling to her upper grade classes. She said she had given a month to teaching hockey and only gotten in four classes. In addition, with most students only having physical education one day a week, “There are some I haven’t seen in a month.” That is especially true for those who have PE on Wednesdays.
She said with warmer weather coming, she will have to move ahead to working on physical fitness tests so the children can finish the mile run before it gets too hot. She said she will decide what else to try to cover later in the year, “but I’m not
