To the Editor: i In the March 2 issue of the Rappahannock News a gentleman from Sperryville wrote in to express concerns about the Varsity Cheerleaders not being at the J.V. basketball game on Feb. 24. I am writing this letter to clear up some misconception nal about the squad. i
First of all, Mr. Roe stated that Bentsville, Central and George Ma» son were all accompanied * by cheerleading squads while Rappahannock was not. This is true. However, all of these schools have two cheerleader squads—a J.V. and a Varsity—Rappahannock does not. Our Varsity squad cheers for both Varsity and J.V. games and practices daily for two hours.
Secondly, Mr. Roe’s letter stated that the Varsity cheerleaders missed two games. This is incorreftv The girls did not cheer on the Feb. 24 game due to the fact that it had been rescheduled from Feb. 23. Our squad had already scheduled a late practice on the 24th to prepare for the Bull Run District Cheerleading competition on that following Saturday.
Citizens of Rappahannock can $i-‘ ther agree or disagree with the decision I made to miss the J.V. gam$, that is their right. I’m just sorry that a letter to the editor upset eight hardworking dedicated and talented girls when it was their coach’s decision not to go. And as far as Mr.* Roe’s comment about cutting Cheerleading to help the budget" T hardly think that the modest stipend I am given to coach the squad (the only money given to the cheerleaders), would solve our budget problems. But given the chance again" I' would be glad to work with these, young ladies for free.
