Math teacher Helen Williamssaid she isn’t worried about her calculus class because “they were way, ahead” of previous year’s classes. In{ her Algebra I classes, she said she will wait until later in the year to make a decision if she needs to skipt certain things she would normally cover. She said that the math dej partment would be able to deal with the problem because the Algebra It teachers will know what the stu-J dents didn’t get in Algebra I. *
Vickie Easthamn, who teacher Algebra II and eighth grade math! said she hasn’t made many adjust-, ments yet. “I’m more careful tof make sure they have retained a con-* cept before I give a test,” she said. >
She noted that the teachers are! using new textbooks this year, and! that makes it somewhat difficult tof compare where students are thhf year with previous years. “I haven’t eliminated anV material yet, but maybe I will later,” she said. >
English teacher Laurel Van; Horn said she is doubling up some; assignments. “I don’t know if I can! cover it all,” she said. “Where £ would normally assign two stories of a certawin type, I’ll do one to make; sure they’re exposed to the different types of literature,” she said.
With her AP English class, she said the students are doing practice; tests now, and they are having more' outside reading.
Earth science teacher Beth Gall said she enjoyed having more timer at home with her own young children. With her classes, she said she expects to cover all the “basics” but! she won’t get to some of the “extras.” She said in former years she has a section in “environmental science. I won’t get to that,” she said. -
Technology teacher Ron Vickers said he is helping students learn to “prioritize” their day. “You can’t do it all,” he said. He said he wants students to set the highest priority in school on doing the work that they can’t do out of school. Z
He said several of his students asked him if he would come to school on a Saturday to work with them, and so one Saturday he had Saturday school from 8a.m. until noon. He said 15 students came on a strictly voluntary basis. “That was a good day,” he said, i : »
