Members of the Water and Sewer Authority learned that the Sperryville sewer plant could easily get in trouble again with the State Water Board.
Plant operator Donna Chabot came to the meeting last Thursday evening to say that since the March 2 snow started melting the plant has been running over its capacity of 55,000 gallons.
She said it was due to inflow and infiltration of ground water, and that when that happens as it had for seven consecutive days, it is impossible to keep solids from being washed out of the plant.
Ms. Chabot said that three tanks on customers property are causing much of the problem. In the case of one tank, the tank itself is leaking, she said. In the other two cases the extra water is coming into the tank because the water lines from the buildings are picking up ground water, she said.
She said the plant received a notice of violation for a similar problem in January, and that one will be received for February. With violations for March, that will be three
