long ago unbecoming chapter in his life that he wants people to forget. It has been over a decade since much of it happened, after all, and if he has been forgiven by his wife and God, as he claims, then why can’t the rest of the people of Virginia take him at his word?
If the answer is they just won’t, I suspect the underlying reason is that, though he says he has never lied to anyone, many will look upon the image he created for himself very successfully as a lie. Robb is someone I liked when he came to Virginia and I had the chance to meet him. He is someone who was always gracious with his time when I was a member of the media. Like most other Vriginians, I regarded him as a man of principle. I ^ad a chance to talk with him on Inauguration Day, and he is still someone I like personally, someone who has always been kind and generous in his dealings with me.
But the bottom line is that much of politics is founded on perception, and perception can be a two-edged swonl as he well knows being a person who once basked in the highest possible perception and who is now perceived by a majority of Virginians as not worthy of representing them in the U.S. Senate.
