The Board of Supervisors scheduled a public hearing on making the program that grants tax relief to the low-income elderly and disabled more generous, but no one came, and the measure was unanimously adopted.

Instead, the Court House Monday evening was crowded with members of the local fire and rescue departments who insisted the supervisors do something about getting the tower constructed that Cellular One has offered to build. The tower will serve the dispatch center also.

1 he rescue squad and fire department members said they want the tower both for its use for the dispatch center in the Sheriffs Office and for cellular phone use.

With current difficulty in radio communication in many parts of the county they said, they sometimes try cellular telephones to communicate, particularly with' the hospitals they bring patients to. But that.communication also needs the tower, they said.

The Washington Town Council has taken the position that they do not want the higher tower in town, and have indicated they don’t particularly want it in the vicinity of town either.

By the end of the meeting the supervisors adopted a motion to ask members of the Recreation Facilities Board how they would feel about having the tower at the countv park.

Hampton District representative Mike Massie abstained in the vote on the motion which passed 4 to 0.

Mr. Massie said the supervisors should instead pursue the idea of locating the tower behind the Rappahannock Farmers’ Co-op.

The Co-op has indicated it is willing to have the tower, which could also serve its dispatching needs, but Cellular One said that location would not work with their need for line-of-sight transmission to Front Royal and Culpeper.
