Most of the members of the fire and rescue squads indicated they don’t care where the tower is built as long as it gets built. Cellular One has until July 1 to begin building the tower or it risks losing its exclusive franchise to provide cellular telephone service in the county.
With any of these locations Sheriff John Henry Woodward said he would want to keep his current tovfer in town to serve as backup in case power is lost or the phone line to the tower goes down.
“We all realize this is not the most beautiful thing in the world," Chairman Hubert Gilkev said. “But it is something we need.”
During the afternoon meeting the supervisors decided to publish the list of delinquent taxpayers. Mr. McCarthy said there is more than SI 17,000 owed to the county, and several properties could be sold for more than the cost of bringing the cases to that point. County Attorney Peter Luke will review the list for such properties.
He reported the county had finally received its Part B permit for the new landfill cell. It cost SI 7,500 in fees to the state and took 26 months to get approval, he said. That does not include S95.000 in fees to the engineering firm to prepare the application, he said.
Work on the new cell is halted waiting tor improved weather. Mr. McCarthy added he believes it will still be possible to open the new cell before it is necessary to stop using the current one.
