Jan. 27, I chaired a meeting of the Northern Valley Caucus, held for the purpose of interviewing three excellent candidates for the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Judgeship becoming available by virtue of Judge Hertz’s retirement. Our unanimous and enthusiastic choice is Dudley Payne. While the next steps are reserved for the consideration of candidates by the appropriate House and Senate committees, then nomination by the Democratic Party caucus, I look forward to presenting Dudley personally to the House Courts of Justice Committee, and to voting for him on the Floor. I have spoken frequently with Dudley over the past month, and my support for him reflects my belief that the process by which we select our judges must be based on merit, should be bi-partisan, and should take into consideration recommendations of local bar Associations.

Win Honors
Rappahannock’s restaurants continue to win honors beyond the county's borders.
Both Four and Twenty Blackbirds and The Inn at Little Washington were listed in the January Washingtonian Magazine's list of “100 Very Best Restaurants.”
Also these two establishments along with the Bleu Rock Inn were listed in the “readers selection” of the 1995 Zagat Survey of of restaurants in the Washington, D.C.-Baltimore area.
