Bessie Porter
Bessie Thelma Powell Porter, 81, of Laurel Hill Nursing Center, widow of Zero Thomas Porter, died Tuesday, Feb. 7.
Mrs. Porter was born July 2, 1913, in Oconee County , a daughter of the late Folger and Nettie McCall Powell.
She was a homemaker and a member of Porter's Chapel United Methodist Church and the seniors Sunday school class.
Survivors include her son, C. Franklin Porter of Pickens, S.C.; daughter, Carol L. Foster of Sperryville; five grandchildren, Rhonda Breeden of Manassas; Kristi Mrotek of Blacksburg, Guy (Butch)Foster, 111 of Flint Hill, Brian Porter of Pickens, S.C. and Tara Porter of Easley and a great-granddaughter, Alaina Breeden of Manassas.
Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Porter was preceded in death by four brothers, O.D. Powell, Juie Powell, Clifton Powell and Cless Powell and two sisters, Flassie Batson and Mary Lou Longfield-Smith.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9 in the Chapel of Dillard Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Cyrus Rogers and Rev. Julian Weisner officiating.
Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Building Fund of Porter’s Chapel United Methodist Church, c/o Rev. Cyrus Rogers, 622 Johnson Street, Pickens, S.C. 29671.
