Joint Resolutions,which would have withdrawn Virginia’s call for a Constitutional Convention, and asked Congress only to support U.S. military actions abroad under the U.S. flag, both were defeated, but resolutions which I co-patroned—supportive of our 10th Amendment and opposing unfunded mandates, both are headed for passage, as is one supportive of a Federal balanced budget amendment and a Presidential lineitem veto. I also co-patroned a resolution encouraging the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance in Virginia’s public schools and institutions of higher learning. We vote on that this week.
Rappahannock County asked to be considered for an Enterprise Zone, and soon will be eligible with the passage of a bill which I co-patroned, doubling the number of possible zones, Commonwealth-wide.
I have asked the Speaker to be included in his appointments to the study commission which will pursue the review of Charter Schools, a process enabled by a resolution which was passed unanimously. Should I be selected, I will look forward to drawing on the dedicated educators, administrators, parents, other taxpayers, and students who bring such quality to education in our own District. We also will be voting this week on a bill which I co-patroned which would return up to 100 percent lottery proceeds to education.
We had a group of 7th graders visit from Highland School this past week; Tuesday, seniors from Liberty High School will be with us, as we consider budget amendments, including my efforts to assist the return of funding to, among others, Extension and Research.
