“The Way We Were” is the title suggested by Mr. James Russell of Sperryville. Bom in 1921, he belongs to the generation that boarded in Manassas when it came time to go to high school. He is the grandson of one of the original teachers who began to teach in 1871 when public schools for whites and blacks were first mandated by the state.
