Mrs. Doyle told Judge Foley that she suffers from severe anxiety attacks and does not remember much about the accident.
She said she car, which she had picked up in Luray only a half hour before the accident, had some sort of steering and braking problem. When she hit the brakes to slow for the corner the car slipped off the road to the right, and then she lost control and swerved across the road.
She said she saw the other car drift by as she was sliding across the road, but did not feel any bump.
“I really don’t remember the accident itself very well,” she said.
“When I got the car stopped I got out and looked but didn’t see much damage to the front of the car. I didn’t know I had hit the mailboxes, she said.”
“Then I got back in the car and started down the road and then I got so scared I could hardly breathe.”
“When these attacks hit me I just try to drive along and look at the scenery until I can breathe comfortably again,” she said.
She told the judge she had personally apologized and paid for the damaged mail boxes and had given Mr. Whorten a check for the repairs to his car before court.
Her father, told the court that she had been getting counseling for the anxiety attacks in Florida before moving back to Virginia to be nearer her three children, who are living with their father following a divorce.
“I have a U-Haul Truck parked at the bottom of her driveway , and if we can get it up to the house we will pack her up and take her back to Florida tomorrow,” he said.
