The distribution of computers to schools around the state was supposed to be part of a program to put a computer in every classroom in Virginia.
RCES already has enough computers to do that, but they have not been distributed in that way. Some classroom have one or two computers; some have four or so, and some classrooms have a computer for every desk. Mr. Pendleton said six elementary school classrooms currently have no computers.
Some of the 10 computers from the state will be assigned to the library to handle the computerized card catalog, he said. Others may be distributed so that each classroom has at least one computer.
Mr. Pendleton is working on plans for networking all the computers at the elementary school. Once the computer network system is in place it will be possible for all these machines to communicate with each other.
Mr. Pendleton said the networking program is still in the planning stage, but he hopes to have the process completed during the current school year.
