If you didn’t apply for the Social Security number at the hospital when your child was bom, then you can get one from Social Security. Call Social Security’s toll-free number, (800) 772-1213, which is available 24 hours a day, or contact the Social Security office in your area. You will have to fill out an application for a Social Security card and present the baby’s original, birth certificate. You will also be asked for proof of the baby’s identity. Once you fill out the application and submit the documents needed to Social Security, you should receive the baby’s card in about two weeks.
