ers. She said in the past the evaluation has been based almost entirely on classroom observation. She said the observations will continue, but working in a committee expectations for everyone had been Ideveloped that include demonstrating positive characteristics such as enthusiasm, friendliness and patience, effectively communicating with students, peers and parents, and providing a “positive instructional environment.”
Mrs. Biggs said evaluation would consist of a supervisor meeting with teachers to discuss these characteristics, classroom observation and a growth plan.
High school Principal Jack Raines presented further plans for block scheduling. Students indicated what classes they want to take next year, and a schedule was developed based on that. Teachers would teach six classes in two days, and students would be taking seven classes. He said there were not enough English teachers to cover all the classes, but few students had signed up for French, so the French teacher could cover some English classes. He also indicated there are too many students signed up for Spanish, and another teacher will be needed for that if Spanish IV is offered. Mr. Raines also asked for the art teacher to be at the high school for two periods each day.
Superintendent David Gangel noted that enrollment has slipped somewhat. There were 1,051 students enrolled at the end of September, 1,049 at the end of October, and 1,037 at the end of November.
