He said he had not “condemned" the building, but it cannot be used as built. RAWL members are working with Mr. Burke and builders to see if they can remedy the situation. Mr. Burke said he had advised the group to work with an architectural engineer to see if they could dig out under the edges of the slab and pout footers down to a level below the frost line. With no support the slab is likely to crack and buckle with the freeze and thaw cycles of the winter, he said.
A RAWL spokesman said they are trying to work something out so the building can be used.
