The Congressional Budget Office predicts that interest rates will drop between 1 percent and 2 percent if our federal government achieves a balanced budget. Every American citizen who uses a credit card, finances a car, receives a college loan or mortgages a home would certainly benefit from lower interest rates. Lower interest rates also allow American businesses to invest in equipment, technology and expansion — which all translate into the creation of additional jobs. The Joint Economic Committee estimates that a 2 percent interest rate decline would result in the creation of over four million jobs within 10 years. This Committee further estimates that per capita income would jump 16 percent during the same time period.

In order to stop the current collision course, our nation must commit itself to achieving a balanced federal budget. As the heated debate in Washington indicates, the choices that must be made to achieve this goal are
