Horses can have from zero to four wolf teeth which are in the area of the mouth where the bit fits. They develop in a foal from six to eight months old. They are extracted in a young horse’s mouth, and the average tooth size is small, about as big around as a pencil.
Dental work on a horse is mostly preventative, said Mr. Pankow. However, like people, problems may develop and turn into bigger problems if not taken care of early.
