My grandmother sewed, and she made me clothes out of old living room drapes. One Christmas she gave me an outfit which I loved, but I never got to wear it because she returned it to the store when she realized that it was something that made me happy.
Sometimes when I was in the backyard I would sneak off and go down to the bay or the library. She caught me one time and screamed at me to go down to the bay and drown myself, warning me never to come home again. I came home that night, after I was sure my father and grandfather were home.
