The Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad is counting on the Miss Rappahannock Pageant a week from Saturday to bring it substantially closer to purchasing a new ambulance. • Tlie squad has two ambulances, a 1963 model and a 1985 model. Both have high mileage on them, and the older one, particularly, is spending more time having mechanical work done on it than it is spending running calls.

Member Debbie Fantaci said the group particularly wants a model that has seats around the area where a stretcher is bolted down so squadsmen can perform CPR. “We’re getting a lot of CPR calls this year,” she said. Lacking such seats means three people work on a patient seated side by side on a bench. That is awkward, Mrs. Fantaci said.

Entrants in the pageant must be signed up by rehearsal time 6:30 p.m. Tuesday April 16 at RCES.

There are several categories. Tiny Tot Miss Rappahannock is for girls
