Rappahannock’s soccer teams had no victories this week, but no opposing teams had a “cake walk,” to borrow words from Mark Pace, the JV soccer coach.
Lorinda Bosch’s U-10 team fought a Fauquier team to a 1-1 tie, with Elliot Nichols scoring the goal for Rappahannock.
The high school varsity team held Culpeper to a one-point tie until midway in the second half when the fastest player on the Culpeper’s varsity, Randy Jackson, got a breakaway and scored a goal.
Coach Kenny Rogers said he had made a calculated risk before Randy’s breakaway to try to break the tie by shifting more energy to the offense. “When you do that, you have to give up some strength in the backfield, and that’s where they hurt us.”
“Both teams played really fast,” Coach Rogers said. “It was very exciting, very entertaining — for the fans, at least. But I wish we hat played slower, with more control. A controlled game takes some time ti develop, though. The players nee< time to get some style, to get to knov their teammates.”
