The RCHS girls’ softball team garnered its first win Monday evening defeating Luray 20 to 12.
Katy Paratore was the winning pitcher. She gave up three hits and walked 17 batters while getting 16 strike outs.
Only five of the Luray runs were earned. “We’re giving up too many unearned runs,” Coach Carl Payne said.
The Panther squad got 7 hits. Cari Kerr went two for two with a home run, a single and three walks. Other hits were earned by Kiersten Kerr, Margo Haynes, Katy Paratore, Tiffany Keys and Stacey Payne. Luray pitchers gave up 18 walks.
Everyone on the roster got into the game. It was a non-district game, and Coach Payne took advantage of a large lead to allow everybody some playing time.
“Katy is improving every game,” Coach Payne said of his pitcher.
