The IRIS Centre for Shamanic Studies is pleased to present its Spring workshop series, “In the Spirit. • . “, at the Centre, 325-B Middle Street in Washington.
“Sacred Circles: A Ritual Artmaking Workshop for Women” with Kathleen Oettinger, ritual artist and Denise Horton, Ph.D. 7-9 p.m. Friday, May 17 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 18. Throughout history the circle has been a primary symbol for both psyche and cosmos. In this intensive workshop, participants will form a sacred community of artists and artisans, and will create a collective artwork to celebrate following the circle into the experience of the light, the emergence of Spring, the journey .of Demeter and Persephone. Slides, music, and meditation will be used to attune participants to their inner vision. Bring sacred images, stories, fabrics/yams, personal icons, feathers, crystals, etc.
“Introduction to Shamanism: Healing and Power” with Denise Horton, Ph.D. and Inka Rusche, drummer from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, June 1. In this half-day workshop, participants will be introduced to the ancient healing art of shamanism and, with the aid of trance-inducing drumming, will actually journey into nonordinary reality for their own healing or personal guidance. The goal of entering the magical world of shamanism is to create a deeper connection with one’s animal allies, spirit guides, and inner knowledge.
“Ways of the Goddess: Balancing on the Spiral Path” with Toni White (Maya) and Lindanne Bethel (Skye), movement artist 7-9 p.m. on Friday, June 14 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
