ready to give it up, and besides, Mark, I was getting picked early when we made up sides.” Although he was a High School All League Player in Philadelphia in the early 70’s and has been playing soccer for over thirty years now, he has never spoken of his need of a trophy case. Instead he talks about a trip to watch the last California state high school championship game, how he marvels at the skill of today’s high school players, and some new moves he learned watching them.
Joe’s been my friend of 28 years. 1 haven’t seen him in the last ten of those years. He says he doesn’t have much hair left, but 1 can remember the sharpness of his glare and the abrupt crinkle of his nose when he decides what it is he’s going to do and sees what’s in the way of doing it. At 44, I doubt Joe has yet learned to dismiss a loss with ease?
We as parents, coaches, teammates or just friends have responsibilities to our players. We must teach them to play within the laws of the game. We must share the knowledge and skills to allow each other to play to our aspirations. We have to learn as individuals to win with dignity and lose with honor. The players determine the rest. . .
To love a game you must learn that game. You must learn how to achieve in that game, what it is that you need, and then respect the results of that game.

The Rappahannock Athletic Association is a non-profit, community-oriented corporation. The mission of the RAA is the teaching of baseball skills, leadership skills and sportsmanship to the youth of our area. The RAA serves families in the Amissville and Rappahannock County community. This community includes portions of Fauquier and Culpeper counties.
Each year, the RAA seeks sponsors for its baseball teams. The purpose of this letter is to acknowledge the financial support we have received to date from the citizens of Rappahannock, Culpeper and Fauquier counties.
