and the board will schedule an extra meeting in April to adopt the reading textbooks so they can be ordered with funds from the current fiscal year’s budget.

With March enrollment figures in Dr. Gangel was able to say that the county’s basic school aid for the current school year will be based on an average daily membership of 1,037 students. The budget was based on 1,010 students. If all other funds come in as expected that will mean an additional $40,000 to $50,000 from the state for the current school year.

However, the board cannot spend that money because it was not part of the budget appropriation, so it will be turned over to the county’s general fund at the end of the fiscal year.

The board adopted a school calendar for next year that includes 185 days and a spring vacation from March 28 through April 6. School is scheduled to start Monday, Aug. 26, and Saturday, June 14 is scheduled for graduation.

Five days missed during the current school year will not be made up. The board voted to take advantage of “banked time” instead. Teachers will be expected to work on five Saturdays, however.
