The board also approved having School Superintendent Davjd Gangel advertise for bids for the new roof, asking for bids for three types 1) replacing the roof with another flat roof, 2) replacing the roof with a similar roof with a drop of 1/8 inch per foot produced by sloped insulation, and 3) replacing the roof with a low sloped metal roof with 1/4 inch per foot drop.
Dr. Gangel’said he estimated the second roof would cost $5,000 more than the first and the third roof would cost another $7,000. He said there might not be enough money to do the third type of roof and the lights at the high school, and several board members said they thought getting rid of flat roofs was more important.
The board heard recommendations from teachers on textbooks to be adopted for the next six years. Carol Johnson said the teachers recommended the school system adopt the Harcourt Brace series for reading. Theresa Rudolph'gave the recommendation on elementary school science books, and Brion Patterson g?ve the recommendation on high school science texts.
The board voted to adopt the science books. At the suggestion of Jackson District representative Ron Makela the board agreed to let the public review the reading textbooks and leave any written comments.
