A recent rash of burglaries in Culpeper County has spread to Rappahannock.
Two residences were forcibly entered during the past week in the county, according to Rappahannock County Sheriff Gary Settle.
The Culpeper Sheriff’s Office had notified the sheriff”s office here about five homes which had been burglarized in the Jeffersonton area of Culpeper County in the last several weeks. The pattern of break ins is the same. Entry is being gained by breaking glass in a door or window and items such as VCRs, stereo equipment, photographic equipment, cellular phones, cordless phones, computer equipment, jewelry, watches, etc. is being taken. Items that can easily be sold for quick cash.
The houses are “pretty thoroughly ransacked” said Settle. The burglaries are being committed during the daytime while owners are away at work and usually between the hours of 10 a.m. to 3 or 4 p.m. Homes in the Route 647 area of Flint Hill and the Route 637 area of Amissville have been broken into.
The Culpeper and Rappahannock sheriff’s offices are investigating the incidents. They are pursuing leads and detailed information on individual break ins is not yet available.
