Nashville songwriters planned for this summer, Reisler was asked to teach only melody. “It’s what the songwriters requested,” he said. “In Colorado (at the Rocky Mountain Folk Festival) almost everyone is professional or semi-professional, but I prefer a mixed group. There is a certain thing that happens when you have beginners, both openness and a sense of ‘not already knowing it all.’ They inspire everyone else.”
Pat Salmon, an aspiring songwriter, attended the last two workshops given in Rappahannock and said, “the feedback from other songwriters was wonderful.”
The 45 participants in the upcoming workshop represent a wide range of professionals to beginners. After having a good time working with the poetry project sponsored by Headwaters Education Foundation at Rappahannock County High School, Reisler decided to offer a scholarship to one of the many enthusiastic students.
Reisler said he is looking forward to the workshop for the inspiration he gains.
“Being around people who are really excited is what does it,” he said, adding that it sustains him for months of composing.
Reisler enjoys teaching and has been conducting annual songwriting workshops in Rappahannock for several years. A weeklong Workshop is planned for this summer.
