The topic was explaining the detailed relationship between technology and science through the ages. “You can’t have strong scientific advances unless you have the technological advances to back them up,” he said.

“For example, spaceships — the space shuttle — required a great deal of technological advancement to build but if you went out into space in it and didn’t know anything about science, the study of space, then you wouldn’t know where to go or what you were looking at once you got there.”

Blubaugh said this is the second year he has been involved with the contest and it has been a “really great experience.”

“I didn’t expect to come back with two first places.”

Not to be outdone, the team of Brady Wolfe, Adam Updike and Chris Antony took the regional championship with a first place in Control Technology. They used Lego bricks and programming skills to create a machine that sorts packages.
