On Saturday, March 28, the second phase of a streambank restoration project will be completed on the South Fork of the Thornton River in Sperryville. Volunteers under the direction of Friends of the Rappahannock (FOR), Army Corps of Engineers and David Tice and Associates prepared sections of the streambank last Sunday for plantings and other improvements to stabi: lize the soil and prevent erosion to protect water quality.
Last Sunday 12 volunteers worked approximately six hours each and additional volunteers are needed this Saturday to complete the project. “Remarkable gains have occurred because of these projects in several areas of the larger Rappahannock and Rapidan River watershed”, according to Friends of the Rappahannock Executive Director John Tippett. “No property owner wants to see their land flow downstream —
