This Saturday will mark the 37th annual Fourth of July Celebration in Washington, Va. and it’s sure to be spectacular.
The day begins with a juried craft show on Gay Street from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the annual Friends of the Library Book Sale also at 10 a.m. at the town hall.
At noon the Washington, Va., dollar bill line begins at the monument on Gay Street and the musical entertainment gets underway with a group of local singers performing favorite patriotic songs, followed by political speakers, both Democrats and Republicans.
The entertainment continues at 1 p.m. with David Clanagan & Free Spirit; at 2 p.m., DorNel Pratt; at 3 p.m., the Eclectics; and at 4 p.m., with special musical guest Bruce Hutton, who has been performing traditional American folk music professionally since 1973. He is scheduled to perform again at 8 p.m.
Meanwhile, vendors will be showing their crafts along Gay Street throughout the day.
Well-known artist Geneva Welch will be selling prints of “Mosby at Massie’s Comer,” a portion of which will go to benefit Jonathan Bankston, who is ill with cancer. The prints will be available at the Gay. St. Merchantile.
