so goes ours, both as individuals and collectively as a society. Thus, any use of the land must be done in a way that acknowledges that intimate relationship — we may use the land, but not abuse it.
To this end, I would suggest that Rappahannock County develop some guidelines and proposals to protect our view shed.
A county plan to address this issue would provide significant environmental protection by reducing soil erosion and runoff, thus preserving our excellent water quality and by conserving critical habitat for many plant and animal species. Economic interests in our self described “rural and scenic” county would also be served, since agriculture and tourism both depend upon the conservation of our mountain regions.
Such a plan — one which would address these sensitive issues in a balanced way — could truly protect the long term interests of all Rappahannock County residents.
