The Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors met last week to adopt the fiscal year 1999 budget and resolutions and approve the year end bills.
At the meeting County Administrator John McCarthy told the supervisors that they needed to approve a resolution and notice for emergency procurement of the voting machines the county plans to buy. When Global Elections Systems, from which the county is purchasing the machines, got the contract they then told McCarthy that the contract has to be run by the State Board of Elections and through the Department of Justice. The supervisors approved the emergency procurement.
Treasurer Frances Foster asked the supervisors for a supplement to be added to the salary for her deputy treasurer. The supervisors said they did not want to start the practice of supplement salaries for Constitutional offices and that it should be done by the state compensation board at the state level.
Foster said the comp board would not increase the deputy’s salary (they base their figures on population) and that the amount of work in the office is
