The Rappahannock Library Board held its regular meeting last week and it was reported that the board had held a special meeting to discuss the purchase of computer upgrades for the library.
The board had funds left in last year’s budget of approximately $7,000 said County Administrator John McCarthy and those funds will be used for the upgrade. The issue had to be decided upon before the end of the fiscal year bills came due.
The three new computers are to be strictly for the circulation and electric card catalog purposes. The systems have needed replacing for a while, said library director David Shaffer. At the board’s meeting last week Shaffer reported that the computers are in and should be up and running by mid-July. The purchase came to $6,486.
The library will also receive two new computers dedicated strictly as Internet stations from the Friends of the Library. The Friends will take the time to purchase the new computers which will not be available until August said Shaffer. Approval for an overhead projector and slide projector for the Jamieson Room was also approved.
Two more special programs were added to the Summer Reading Program: Chuck Hoya from the Virginia Co-op in Warrenton will present a show on insects; and Lorraine Duisit Espinola will perform.
