Council member Ray Gooch, who did not run for reelection, stated that he did not want “to pull back from the resolve needed to pay for water system. I think the $65,000 (included in the FY9899 budget) will have to be an annual exercise. The reserves are critically important.” Gooch noted that, even at that rate of saving, it would take 17 years to finance the $1.48 million estimated cost of the proposed wastewater system.
Former mayor Dean Morehouse agreed with Tompkins’ assessment. “You need to take control of your destiny,” he said, “or ask the county to provide (life essential) services.” To do otherwise, he suggested “will deter the county’s plan.”
