Mr. Atkins was born Aug. 5, 1924 in Sperryville, son of Ellis and Connie Atkins. He was a carpenter by trade, a member of the Linden United Methodist Church and a World War II Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years Grace Campbell Atkins; one son Ned Allen Atkins and his wife Terri of Benfonville; two daughters Judy Gordon and her husband George and Shelia Jean Showers and her husband Steve, all of Linden; seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Also surviving are three sisters Helen Kenney and Connie Clatterbuck, both of Linden and Dorothy Sullivan of Front Royal; a brother Woodrow Atkins of Front Royal.

Vincent Romanus Burke Sr., 68, of Strasburg died Friday, Oct. 30 in the Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday at Maddox Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Young. Burial followed in Panorama Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Burke was born Dec. 21, 1929 in Rappahannock County, son of Raymond R. Burke Sr. and Mamie Katherine Shenk Burke. He was a retired carpenter.
Surviving are three sons Kenneth Harold Burke of Mt.. Jackson, Gary Burke of Front Royal and Vincent Burke Jr. of Bentonville; a daughter Bonnie Lee Cain of Sanford, Fla.; a sister Muriel Meadows of Fredericksburg and nine grandchildren.
