the sheriff’s office investigated damage done to private property. A vehicle belonging to Thomas Jenkins of Viewtown had been damaged by some type of blunt object (like a baseball bat). The damage has been estimated at $150. The sheriff’s office is investigating.
A1 Payne, a resident of Gid Brown Hollow, reported damage to his truck while he was in Amissville on Oct. 31. Someone bent the windshield wipers on the truck backward. The damage was estimated at about $50 and the sheriff’s office has no suspects at this time.
Also occurring on Halloween night was an incident at a dance being held at the Sperryville fire hall. A call was made to the sheriff’s office by the Sperryville VFD concerning a person causing trouble at the dance. Randy Smoot, 28, of Washington, was escorted off the property by sheriff’s deputies, who diffused the situation, but later Smoot returned and was banging on the door of a residence next to the fire hall.
He was arrested by Deputy Roger Jenkins at 3:14 a.m. for being drunk in public.
