Republican Frank Wolf, the region’s preeminent “pothole politician,” cruised to a tenth term in Congress yesterday with a decisive win over Democrat newcomer Cornell Brooks and Libertarian candidate Robert Buchanan.
A strong economy and record low unemployment levels across the region seemed to bolster voter confidence in Wolf, spurring what looked to be a landslide victory. Unofficial results showed Wolf with a strong lead late last night, with 71 percent of the vote.
“I think the voters returned me to office based on what I have done, on my record,” said Wolf at a victory party in Leesburg.
Wolf pledged to continue balancing the federal budget, to work to save Social Security “in a way that is appropriate and sound for everyone,” and to expand truck safety programs.
