A container with about $100 to $150 was taken from an outbuilding of a residence off Route 642 in Amissville that same day. Again, there was no sign of forced entry. The sheriff’s office is investigating the crime.
On Oct. 29 Thaniel Dodson of Sperryville was visiting a friend in Amissville on Route 611 when a tool box was stolen from the larger attached tool box on the bed of his truck. The tool box contained an assortment of tools valued at about $400. The theft, which occurred before 1:30 p.m., is under investigation. The person responsible for the crime could face a grand larceny charge since the stolen property is valued in excess of $250.
At 3:30 on Oct. 29 the sheriff’s office responded to a call from the Gay Street Mercantile. The shop had been closed for several days while some repairs were being made. Upon returning to the shop the store personnel found the cash box, with about $200 of starting change for daily use, had been stolen from the premises. An investigation into the incident is underway.
