The county Planning Commission we'comed a new member and gave final approval for Dr. Dale Sehusterman to move his chiropractic office at its July meeting. Also discussed were the subdivision ordinance, limousine and executive sedan services and the telecommunications ordinance. Everyone was present except for Ron Frazier.

New membjer

Commission Chair Dr. Werner Krebser introduced Tom Tepper as the new commission representative from the Stonewall-Hawthorne District. Tepper, who is an architect by trade and has lived in the county since 1992, replaces Sharon Pierce. Ms. Pierce resigned her seat a couple of months ago.

Chiropractic Office

The commission unanimously approved a final site plan for Rappahannock Chiropractic Services. Dr. Sehusterman wishes to purchase a house just west of Washington, offofU.S. 211, and relocate his office there.

The revised plan included a deceleration lane from U.S. 211, widening of pavement in one stretch to allow two vehicles to pass and riiore parking than required by local ordinances. A number of commission members expressed their pleasure at how thorough the site plan was.

Subdivision ordinance

Dr. Krebser, Frazier and L.G. “Butch” Zindel met previous to this meeting to discuss proposed changes to the county subdivision ordinance in light of Virginia House Bill 2324 taking effect Jan. 1.

As a result of this bill becoming law, counties will no longer be allowed to have a special exception process for subdivisions. In addition, the commission will still review plats for subdivisions but cannot require a site plan. The county can, however, still require a special exception in certain cases, such as clusters or town centers and steep mountain slope development.

Many of the proposed changes centered around changing the wording in certain sections to remove mention of special exceptions. They suggested reviewing zoning categories and standards for lot sizes for residential lots.

In addition, it was suggested that section 147-40 of the county codes - which requires a special exception for resubdividing lots that have already been subdivided - be removed. The commission will study the matter further.

Limousine service

McCarthy addressed the commission briefly on limousine and executive sedan services. As the result of a bill recently signed into law by Governor Gilmore, procedures for regulating these services will now be separate from procedures regulating taxi services. Previously, the same regulations governed both.
