Good Neighbor of the month. Mrs. Sisk has a half acre home garden on which she has cost-shared under the ACP E-5. Mrs. Sisk cans, freezes or gives away almost everything in her garden, except some of the beans that are sold. The ACP cost shares were for preparing seed bed and 500 pounds of 5-10-10 fertilizer.

The Town of Washington, “The First Washington of All” will celebrate its 225th birthday on Sunday, Aug. 4 with a commemorative town meeting, tour and program, followed by refreshments. The town was surveyed and platted by George Washington. A marker is erected in a lot in the courthouse area. Several cases of snake bites have been reported this summer, mainly involving copperheads. Caution should be taken when hiking, or in any area which might harbor snakes. Deputy Everett Estes was pictured holding a timber rattler which was killed in Sycamore Hollow recently. This snake was run over by an auto and injured, the deputy finished it off. Chester Gap 4-H club members undertook a summer project labeled “4-H Funshop” which consisted of some craft work and baking. Mrs. Maybelle Gilkey was hostess for the two sessions. Girls baked cookies to go along with their lunch and both boys and girls made fabric flowers, decorated vases, made nature plaques, place mats, mobiles and finger painted posters.*
