“Heart Cries of a Captive People”, the Headwaters summer program, was held at the Rappahannock Elementary School auditorium Friday and Saturday, July 23 and 24.
The program was organized by Theresa Light. Nils Aylor, Sr. (Program Assistant), Sheri Aylor (Pianist and Choral Director), Tom Davis (African Studies Consultant), Jonathan Bankston and Dylan Corbin (backstage crew) and Tanya Stevens, Melissa and Shantae Webster (Step Instructors) all pitched in to make the production possible. Other groups and individuals, too numerous to mention, helped with monetary support, time and effort.
“Heart Cries” is an experience in African-American culture through song, step (which combines military drill with dance) and readings, “art forms which have been passed from generation to generation.” The Friday program concluded with Mr.
