1960, classifications were restructured with the district organization within each group extended to regional programs in each of four areas of the state.

From 1951 to present, the Virginia High School League has initiated a revised training program for officials in all sports. The officials must be registered and pass a final examination.

The growth of female athletics prompted the League, in 1968, to begin coordinating those activities. In 1972, a Girls Sports Committee was developed to assist in the leadership of the girls athletic programs.

In 1973, the League developed a League information program designed to better serve its member schools.

In 1981, the League was incorporated , thus becoming the Virginia High School League, Inc.
