Our modem, science based culture is reawakening itself to the notion that prayer can be an integral part of a healthy life. Perhaps Lillian Smith seems to be overstating things somewhat when she says that praying is as difficult as bridge building. She makes her point, nevertheless, when she wrote, “I am sure it is no easier to pray than it is to create music or write a poem. It must be as hard to do as it is to build a bridge, or to discover a great scientific principle, or to heal the sick, or to understand another human being.
