Bryant related, “is going to force people to sell cattle at prices of $200 to $300 instead of $500 to $700.” Farmers are selling both calves and cows for meat, and not retaining breeding stock because of the lack of feed and the high prices for feed purchase. In the spring, he suggests, “they’ll need to buy cattle to replenish their herds, and they will have to pay high prices because everyone will be doing the same thing.”
Lee expresses some concern about the delay by the Board of Supervisors in preparing a drought disaster resolution so that the County can be declared a disaster area. “All the' counties except Culpeper have already done that,” he said, and he would like to see the Supervisors move on that now, instead of waiting for the August meeting.
