They will show slides and discuss their long-term monitoring program in the Park, the program’s goals and objectives, the species of salamanders investigated, the methods of sampling and assessment, and the importance of this bioindicator to all of us.
Director Shaffer also reported that the July 4th Book Sale was very successful, netting more than $2500. He thanked Lois Snead and Grace Sims for their efforts in organizing the event.
The Summer Reading program has been well-attended, according to Shaffer, with over 60 children signed up. The July 31 program features Bill Wellington of WOOF Radio fame, who will sing and tell stories, and will probably be accompanied by his reportedly “very shy mouse.”
The-Library was the unexpected recipient of a new Gateway computer system from the State Library. This computer will be dedicated to staff use, and has been provided to facilitate submission of reports to the Commonwealth.
Other activities
• The library ordered a new copier to replace its failing machine.
• A series of paintings by Steve Wagner of Sycamore Hill B&B is on display in the library entryway and in the Jamieson Room.
• Helen Platt noted that there was library card reciprocity with Fauquier, Culpeper and Warren counties, and that Rappahannock Library card holders could get cards in those libraries by presenting their Rappahannock cards.
• There will be no August Library Board meeting.
