Who doesn’t love summer? Remember those lazy days when you had all the time in the world to lie on your back in the grass picking out animal shapes in the clouds? Or the exhilarating feeling of running through the backyard sprinkler shrieking with delight? There was time to pitch pennies, pick dandelions, or make sand castles. Life was carefree, and the days were long and leisurely.
What a contrast to today’s hectic pace! But summer is the time to put aside deadlines, and treat yourself to a picnic.
Atmosphere is important. A beautiful beach, forest, mountain, or meadow would be ideal, but pick anyplace you truly enjoy, even if it’s your own backyard. For exercise enthusiasts, bring along your bicycle, roller blades, or hiking boots. Otherwise, just sit back and watch the sun rise or set, anytime can be picnic time.
Ever notice how everything tastes so much better surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature? Depend on eggs, a natural food, for easy picnic ideas. Plan to prepare as much as possible the day before. That way cold foods will be nicely chilled for packing in the cooler with ice or commercial coolant.
Keep the cooler out of direct sun, and open it only when necessary. For early risers, plan a breakfast picnic. Cook up your favorite frittata, cut it into slices, wrap it completely in aluminum foil, and refrigerate overnight. Throw in some fresh fruit and bagels
