Ragged Mountain activities

The following activities are sponsored by Ragged Mountain Resource Center and more information may be obtained by calling the center at 987-3366.

• Sunday, Oct. 31: Halloween Community Bonfire in Washington just after dark.

• Saturday, Nov. 13: “Blue Ridge to the Bay” Second Saturday Hike Series to trails in the Shenandoah National Park near upper Rappahannock River watershed tributaries. Meet at Mountainside Market, 987-9100 on U.S. 211 west of Sperryville between 8-8:30 a.m. and return midafternoon. Bring food for self and layered clothing according to the weather of the day. Destination: Broad Hollow/Pine Hill Gap trails (adjacent streams are sub-watershed tributaries of Hazel River, central upper tributary of Rappahannock. Hike Leader: Hunt Harris, 987-3366.

• Sunday, Nov. 21: Moonlight Hike of Old Rag Mountain. Meet at Mountainside Market on U.S. 211 west of Sperryville between 4-4:30 p.m. Return ? Bring food for self and layered clothing, small flashlight in case of cloud cover. Hike Leader: Hunt, 987-3366.

Shooting match at Castleton

The Castleton Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring a shooting match every Friday night at 7 p.m. on the grounds of the department. Local residents are encouraged to support this endeavor.

Fundraiser underway

The Rappahannock County High School Athletic Boosters are beginning their main fundraiser of the year.

For a donation of only $20 you could be eligible to win a grand prize of $1,000; a second place prize of $750 or a third place prize of $250. Prizes will be given away at the last boy’s basketball game in December. You do not need to be present to win. There will be only 200 tickets printed.

Proceeds benefit the athletes at the high school and the athletic department. Tickets are available from any RCHS coach, at any home game or from any of the following Booster Club members: Nancy and Calvin Atkins, Monte and Lisa Clinedinst or Cheryl Taylor.
